Connect to the Internet
How to access wireless internet access at Ernie Shore Field
In most cases when you install a wireless network card it will not be necessary to change any settings on the card for wireless connectivity to work. The default settings in place when the card is first installed will allow immediate access to the network.
To test whether your card needs changes to it's configuration settings go to an area with wireless connectivity. If you are able to access the internet (browser) then no changes need to be made. If you aren't able to connect then it may be necessary to change the card's settings.
- The network mode should be configured as Infrastructure or Access Point (not Ad Hoc or Peer-to-Peer).
- The network name (SSID) is "warthogs". (If your card has an option for 'ANY' you may want to leave it as is so you will be able to connect to different wireless networks in other locations.)
- You are connecting to a DHCP Server; therefore, you will not need to specify an IP address.
- WEP encryption, LEAP, or PEAP should not be enabled on the wireless card.
- The wireless card should be configured to renew its IP address when connecting to this network, if this option is available.
- If you cannot get any kind of network connection make sure that the wireless device is within the range of the wireless access point. Move to an open area within the wireless location and reboot the device, then try connecting again.
- This wireless network is only compatible with 802.11 compliant devices. Bluetooth devices and other non 802.11 compliant devices will not be able to access this wireless network.
- Because every manufacturer has different configuration settings for their wireless devices, it is recommended that you consult your wireless card manufacturer's installation and configuration guide to properly configure your device.
